Colonel Brandon Thompson is an Academy Professor and Director of the Engineering Management Program in the Department of Systems Engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy, conferred in 2001. He earned a Master of Science in Health Systems Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2010, a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2018, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a concentration in Human Factors at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2020. COL Thompson is a licensed Professional Engineer in Industrial Engineering in the state of New York. His research areas of interest include health systems and human factors engineering.
COL Thompson commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer and served as an Infantry Battalion Assistant Intelligence Officer, MI Platoon Leader, and Brigade Assistant Intelligence Officer in the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following the Military Intelligence Captains Career Course, COL Thompson served as a Cavalry Squadron Intelligence Officer and Military Intelligence Company Commander in the 4-25th Airborne Brigade Combat Team at Fort Richardson, Alaska, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. COL Thompson taught in the Department of Systems Engineering from 2010 to 2013. While teaching, COL Thompson transferred into the FA49 Operations Research Systems Analysis functional area. After West Point, COL Thompson served on the U.S. Army G1 Staff as an analyst conducting officer personnel strength forecasting and modeling.
