"I liked who I was becoming at West Point. The people, culture, and mission combined to help me grow and move towards my own goals and dreams. I found the most supportive community of friends, mentors, and teachers. They walked me through my valleys and celebrated my peaks, building a bond that is like none other imaginable."

- Elizabeth Gilbert, West Point Class of 2023
Cadet Mentorship

Cadets are led, mentored, and supported by professionals in the Brigade Tactical Department (BTD). A major component of the BTD is "TAC Teams" - the tactical officer and tactical non-commissioned officer pair that is assigned to each of the 36 cadet companies. TAC Teams serve as the primary leader developers/integrators of the academy's developmental programs. They oversee each cadet's individual development in the academic, military, physical, and moral-ethical dimensions within the framework of the cadet company and are responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a command climate that fosters individual and organizational excellence.

Athletes Who Lead: Built for the Challenge

At West Point, leadership starts long before day one. Over 80% of cadets earned varsity letters, and nearly two-thirds served as team captains. If you thrive on the field and lead by example, you’re already on the right path.

Cohesion through Athletics and Teamwork

Every cadet is an athlete and must engage in play some type of sport. More than a recreational release for cadets, these athletic teams help cultivate a warrior ethos, develop grit and drive, and contribute to a strong spirit de corps.

Service, Honor, and Leadership Start Early

West Point cadets come from a tradition of service and leadership. Many earned top honors like Eagle Scout or the Gold Award, participated in Scouting America, and stood out in Boys and Girls State or Nation programs. If you're already stepping up in your community, you're not alone.

Personal Growth

Whatever your interests are, the United States Military Academy has facilities, groups, and activities to encourage your growth as an individual, as part of a team, and as a leader of character.

Vibrant Spiritual Communities

- Sophie McKenzie, West Point Class of 2023
Cadet Camaraderie

Cadets do everything together. They live, eat, study, and participate in all military training with their cadet company. The company is the most important unit level of the Corps. Often, cadets' most rewarding experiences at the military academy are experienced with the members of their company. The bonds forged during the rigors of academy life last a lifetime.
