MAJ Briana List is an international affairs instructor in the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy. She commissioned as a Field Artillery officer from the College of William & Mary in 2015 with a B.A. in government and French and Francophone studies. She served as a Fire Direction Officer in 1-319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment and as a Fire Support Officer in the 2-505th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division before being assessed and selected as a Civil Affairs officer.
After attending Basic Special Operations Language Training in Russian and the Civil Affairs Qualification Course, Briana was assigned to Fox Company, 92nd Civil Affairs Battalion (Special Operations) (Airborne) as a team leader. In 2022, she deployed to the country of Georgia under Special Operations Command Europe as a Civil Military Support Element commander in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. Her most recent assignment was as an instructor at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.
Briana received her Master of International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) with a focus on security, strategy, and statecraft, as well as Europe and Eurasia. Her research interests concern the role of civilians in comprehensive defense, politics of post-Soviet states, and irregular warfare.
Briana and her husband, Richard, enjoy spending weekends traveling, eating great food, and hiking with their dog, Maverick.
