COL Francis Murphy, PhD, is an Academy Professor and director of the Economics Program within the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy (USMA). A 2002 USMA graduate, Fran also earned graduate degrees at Dartmouth (Tuck School of Business) and the University of Virginia. His research has published at the Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, and Journal of Human Capital.  

Fran previously served as a rotating faculty member (economics) at West Point and with the First Infantry Division on multiple combat deployments to the Middle East. His most recent assignment was at the US Air Force Academy as Director of Research for the Office of Labor and Economic Analysis (OLEA), a nascent research agency providing rigorous manpower and policy analysis to the Department of the Air Force.  

At West Point, Fran currently teaches introductory economics as well as the defense economics capstone.
