LTC Jessica Dawson is the Digital Force Protection Division Chief at the Army Cyber Institute where her research focuses on the digital disruption of social processes. Her research centers on the use of narratives around military service such as sacrifice narratives to influence changing views of patriotism and freedom since the Vietnam War. Additionally, her work focuses on the risks to the force associated with commercial data collection. She has briefed numerous senior leaders on the social media threat space that makes the Army more vulnerable and has written about the risks to the force from micro targeting and a lack of digital privacy. An academy professor in Sociology, she also course directs Social Theory, which focuses on understanding different theories that hold society together or break it apart as well as Social Inequality, that investigates the structures surrounding inequality in the United States. She holds a Ph.D. from Duke Sociology.
