LTC Joshua Groen graduated with a B.S.E. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University in 2007 and commissioned as an Armor officer. He served as a platoon leader and executive officer with 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment in Korea, and again as a platoon leader and executive officer with 1st Squadron (Airborne), 40th Cavalry Regiment in Alaska. He deployed to Afghanistan with 1-40 CAV in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Following completion of the Functional Area 26A (Network Systems Engineer) qualification course, his next assignment was with the 50th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, where he served as a network systems engineer.

After earning an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, he served as an instructor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the United States Military Academy.

He was then assigned to the U.S. Army Regional Cyber Center – Korea (RCC-K), where he served in multiple roles, including Senior Information Systems Engineer, Theater Operations Division Chief, and Senior Network Engineer.

He completed a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Northeastern University, where his research focused on the intersection of wireless communications, machine learning, and cybersecurity.

He currently serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the United States Military Academy.
