Dr. Michael A. Butkus, Professor of Environmental Engineering, has expertise in water supply, hazardous waste remediation and wastewater treatment with a focus on sustainable systems in these areas. Dr. Butkus is a Board-Certified Environmental Engineer (American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists) and registered Professional Engineer (Connecticut). Dr. Butkus’ top priority is to promote student (Cadet) development, with an emphasis on communication, problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
His current research interests include mycoremediation of firing range soils, greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable environmental engineering systems, and engineering education. He holds a patent for disinfecting water with UV radiation and silver and for using waste heat to produce drinking water via dehumidification.
