LTC Nicholas Barry graduated with a B.S. in electrical engineering, with honors, from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2006. Commissioned as an engineer officer, he served as a platoon leader, battalion logistics officer, and company executive officer in the 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division.
As a captain, he deployed with the 37th Engineer Battalion to Iraq before attending the Engineer Captain’s Career Course. He commanded A Company, 40th Engineer Battalion 170th IBCT, during a deployment to Afghanistan and later commanded HHC, 40th Engineer Battalion, 170th IBCT as well. He served as an observer, coach, and trainer team chief at Fort Hood, TX, before attending graduate school.
After graduate school, he served as an assistant professor of electrical engineering at West Point. He then served as the Chief of Operations for the 3d Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood and then as the Executive Officer of 4th Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment.
After completing a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, LTC Barry transferred to Functional Area 47, serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at West Point.
