LTC Raymond Leong

LTC Raymond Leong is an Instructor and Reservist faculty member in the Computer Science Program of the EECS Department. Ray began his career as an Armor Officer stationed in Germany with the 66th Armor Battalion, 172nd Infantry Brigade. During that overseas tour, he deployed to Iraq as a Tank Platoon Leader in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning stateside, he was selected for FA-40: Space Operations. He subsequently served with the 1st Space Brigade and led integration of space-based capabilities into Army corps and theater level formations. LTC Leong then transferred into the Army Reserve and qualified as a Cyber Operations Officer. He then led cyber intelligence efforts for the USAR Cyber Operations Group and as a Technical Director at USCYBERCOM, led malware reverse engineering efforts in support of the Cyber National Mission Force. In his civilian capacity, Ray is a staff Reverse Engineer on Google's FLARE Team, where he enjoys reverse engineering nation-state malware, contributing to automated malware analysis systems, and teaching new reverse engineers. Prior to his current position, he was a Cyber Threat Analyst at Mandiant, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and a Task Force Officer with the FBI, where he contributed to tracking and disrupting priority cyber threats. LTC Leong is a 2007 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and completed his master’s degree in 2011 from the University of Leeds. He is a graduate of the Armor Basic Officer Leader Course, Maneuver Captain's Career Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Army Reconnaissance Course, Space Operations Qualification Course, Joint Network Attack Course, and the Command and General staff Officer Course.
