
MAJ Kirkpatrick is a Civil Affairs officer assigned to the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences (GEO) as a reserve Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA). He works for the US Army Corps of Engineers as a civilian where he focuses on the development of light detection and ranging (lidar) systems for the provision of 3D data.
As a reserve augmentee, he supports the Geospatial Science program by advising on research projects, liaising with agencies in the Washington, D.C., area, and providing guest lectures for multiple classes within the department. He was brought on active duty for the fall semester of AY23 to teach EV378 Cartography.
His research interests include active optical remote sensing and the use of high-resolution 3D data to support environmental and civil engineering applications.
