LTC Hummel is an assistant professor. He teaches courses in both biology and general chemistry. LTC Hummel was commissioned through officer candidate school in December 2005 as chemical officer. Upon completion of company command, he switched to functional area 52, Nuclear and Counter-WMD.
His experiences cover both the tactical and operational level and include serving in armor, light infantry, Stryker, and specialized units such as a nuclear disablement team. He has operational experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. LTC Hummel has two Masters of Science degrees in free radical and radiation biology from the University of Iowa and chemical and physical biology from Vanderbilt University. In 2023, he earned his Ph.D. in biology from Boston College.
