Dr. Wayne Lee is the 2025/26 Charles Boal Ewing Chair of Military History. He is a Distinguished Professor of History at the University of North Carolina, where he has been teaching since 2006. He specializes in world military history and has written about everything from the role of violence in human evolution to Ottoman fortifications, Mongol logistics, and the American Revolution.
He received his Ph.D. from Duke in 1999. Prior to that, he served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer. He has also taught at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) and the USAF's School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS).
