By its nature, studies of law and philosophy draw on historical and cultural perspectives, require awareness and resolution of moral and ethical issues, demonstrate the need for clear and concise communication, and lead to an increased understanding of how individuals, organizations, and societies pursue goals. The Department of Law and Philosophy seeks to educate and inspire cadets to be leaders of character who are critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, effective communicators, and agile decision-makers in a rapidly changing and often ambiguous world.
It takes a team to ensure the U.S. Military Academy at West Point can fulfill its mission to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets. There are roles for military and civilian faculty to teach cadets and for those both in and out of uniform to ensure the systems and processes required to operate a military installation and college campus are in place and running efficiently.
