Dr. Kalkstein's primary responsibility is faculty development for the Simon Center for Professional Military Ethic in character development and pedagogy. She also supports the development and implementation of character education programs, and has spearheaded character education initiatives at West Point, including redesigning Freshman (plebe) character education and character curriculum during Cadet Summer Training.
Dr. Kalkstein teaches psychology in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership. As an academic, Dr. Kalkstein has presented and published research in decision making, health psychology, motivation, reading comprehension, academic integrity, women's health, and in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Dr. Kalkstein has a passion for education, in particular promoting creativity and critical thinking, with interests in human-centered design, character development, and leadership development. She has taught a wide array of college courses across the psychology curriculum.
At a previous institution, Dr. Kalkstein was a Director of Faculty Development and served for a year as an Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs. She was selected as a Fulbright Scholar in 2017-2018.
