A Message from the Commandant of Cadets

12 August 2025

To the Parents, Families, and Friends of our Corps of Cadets:

Greetings from West Point! My heartfelt congratulations on the success of Class of 2029 with their completion of Cadet Basic Training (CBT). CBT transformed your son or daughter from a civilian to a cadet- instilling the discipline, resilience, and skills needed to thrive at West Point. Although their first summer of military training is complete and Acceptance Day approaches, they will face yet another crucial transition as the academic year begins. Your cadet is well positioned to succeed as they begin their academic classes while continuing their character, military, and physical development. As they navigate these new endeavors, please remind them they are not alone. Their team leader, cadet chain of command, and Tactical Team are in place to support and guide them. And as their support network from the beginning, the importance of your continued encouragement cannot be understated. Hold the Line, 2029!

As we close out summer training, I would also like to recognize the Classes of 2026, 2027, and 2028. The Class of 2028 successfully completed Cadet Field Training (CFT), further honing the military skills they developed during CBT and learning how to lead at the team and squad levels. They have proven themselves to be strong followers and are now prepared to step into their role of team leader, where they will have the opportunity to take ownership of the development of a Fourth- Class cadet. This will be an important year of continuing to refine their leadership style as they prepare for more senior leadership positions. Your cadet will have the ability to drive change from the ground up as they form and develop the perspectives, skills, and practices of the Fourth-Class cadet they are leading.

We also wish to commend the Classes of 2026 and 2027 for their leadership as cadre for all Cadet Summer Training details. These cadets played a key role in building a solid foundation for our lower-class cadets, while also building an atmosphere of trust within the Corps. Whether participating in Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT) at an operational Army post or completing their final military capstone training Cadet Leader Development Training (CLDT), they rose to the challenge of stewarding positions of influence and showcasing what it means to be a leader of character both at West Point and abroad.

I want to extend a resounding “Thank you” for the countless ways you have invested in your cadet on their journey here at West Point. As a reminder, the cadet chains of command, support staff, and Tactical Teams are here to provide guidance and mentorship to every cadet. Please encourage them to utilize these committed mentors who seek to help your son or daughter become the best version of themselves. Congratulations to all classes on finishing an exceptional summer as they move one step closer to becoming officers in our Nation's Army.
