Dr. Andrew J. Banko is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil & Mechanical Engineering and director of the West Point Technical Scholars Program (TSP). He earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2012 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 2014 and 2018, respectively.

Before coming to West Point, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford's Center for Turbulence Research.

Dr. Banko's research investigates turbulent mixing in complex systems using a variety of experimental methods, including optical and medical imaging techniques. Recent applications include indoor and outdoor air quality in urban areas, heat and mass transfer in energy and propulsion systems, reduced-order modeling of turbulent transport, and the development of advanced measurement techniques using magnetic resonance imaging.

As director of the TSP, Dr. Banko leads program efforts on cadet mentorship, technical communication instruction, external speaker engagements, community b-uilding events, and scholarship application administration.
