Dr. J. Josiah Steckenrider, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Dynamics Thread Leader
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering
Center for Applied Engineering
Dr. Josiah Steckenrider received his BS in engineering physics from Taylor University in Upland, Indiana before completing his MS and PhD in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech. In 2018, he spent a semester teaching in the Physics and Engineering Department at Taylor University. After a short postdoc at the University of Virginia following his PhD, he joined the faculty in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CME) at West Point in 2020.
Since 2023, Dr. Steckenrider has been the Dynamics and Mechatronics Thread Leader in the Mechanical Engineering division of CME. He also serves as an Associate Director for Dynamics and Robotics in the Center for Applied Engineering (CAE). He has a diverse research background, including applied optics, biomechanics, and computer vision/image processing, but his core expertise lies at the intersection of dynamics, robotics, controls, estimation, and information fusion.
