Originally from Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Michael Geheran served as an NCO in the 3/187 INF, 101st ABN Division (AASLT) prior to entering Academia. His research engages with modern Germany, the World Wars, and the Holocaust. He completed his graduate studies in Modern European History at Harvard University and Clark University, where he received in PhD in 2016. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Germany from 2011-2012, and his research has been supported by grants from the German Historical Institute, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Society for Military History, the International Institute for Holocaust Research at Yad Vashem, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). His first book, Comrades Betrayed: Jewish World War I Veterans under Hitler, was published by Cornell University Press in 2020.

Prof. Geheran teaches courses on Military History, Modern Western Europe, the Holocaust and its Legacy, Genocide and Mass Atrocity, the History of Russia, and Modern German History. Prior to coming to West Point in 2017, Geheran taught at the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies at Boston University.
