The West Point Fire Department hosts a Fire Prevention Open House for the community from 4-6 p.m., Oct. 8, at 1204 Commissary Road (H Lot).
The event is fun for all ages where there are free raffles and giveaways, fire trucks on display, live rescue and forcible entry demonstrations, kids fire extinguisher training, a kids’ obstacle course with gear and a bouncy house.
There will also be a special appearance by Sparky. There will be free hot dogs and water for all attendees, and the Fire Poster contest grand prize winner will be announced during the event.
During Fire Prevention Week, from Oct. 5-11, the poster contest titled, “Charge into Fire Safety,” is open to all students in grades 1-5. The poster size must be 17x24 inches. The poster must be turned in by 10 a.m. Oct. 3 with winners announced Oct. 7 and the grand prize winners announced at the Open House on Oct. 8.
The grand prizes include a dinner with the firefighters or a ride to school in a fire truck.
