MAJ Oscar Villar

MAJ Oscar Antonio Villar Sandoval is the Mexican Army Exchange Officer in the United States Military Academy (USMA). He is from Ciudad de México. 

MAJ Villar graduated from the Universidad del Ejército y Fuerza Aérea Mexicanos but also from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), earning a Senior University Technician degree in Civil Protection, a bachelor’s degree in Prevention Culture and Civil Security, a bachelor’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and a master’s degree in Military Administration with a Specialty in General Staff. 

He has completed several courses during his time serving, but he is most proud of military parachuting, infantry officers training, administrative tactical application, command and general staff, military intelligence, intelligence tools and software, specialization in analysis of organized crime, combat camera, media management, comprehensive faculty training, as well as English and French languages abroad.  

During his 23 years of federal active-duty service, MAJ Villar has performed as cadet squad leader (Heroico Colegio Militar, Ciudad de México), infantry platoon leader (Veracruz, Mexico), company commander (Yucatán, México), Special Command S-2/S-3 at a battalion level (Coahuila, México), Military Zone S-3 at a Brigade level (Colima, México), and Military Region S-1 at a Division level (Jalisco, México). Besides this, he served as a field asset and an analyst in several military intelligence units, and as an instructor of English in the Escuela Militar de Idiomas. His most recent assignment was on the Joint Staff of National Defense.

He has a three-year-old daughter named Bárbara Milena who lives in Mexico and visits West Point on vacations. Among other hobbies, he loves literature, history, sports and languages.

MAJ Villar teaches intermediate and Advanced level Spanish at West Point.
